Some of the experiences seemed to be clear messages about what was going on in my body and some were other types of messages. For example, there was an image of a fire burning in my torso and then it changed to a chard black soot. The message seemed to be about burning and clearing out the old and being prepared for new growth and change.
Later my acupuncturist introduced me to herbal medicine. She gave me some herbs to mix with water and sip through the day as another method to assist the acupuncture treatments. The herb supplement was a liquid to drop in a bottle of water and then sip it throughout the day. This herb infused water totally gagged me and I just couldn’t sip it. I reported this to my acupuncturist as “poison”. This alarmed her and she said, “but there is no flavor in these drops”. She concluded that my body was letting me know what it didn’t want and didn’t need.
That was when I started to take it seriously that my body was trying to communicate to me and let me know what it did or did not want.
Recently I had bronchitis and pneumonia. My primary care physician prescribed some inhalers, cough medicine, and some other pills. Shortly after my very first burst of taking these meds I was flat on my back with an intense migraine. When the migraine finally subsided, I took another round of meds and once again, in about 10 minutes, a new migraine immediately developed. I then had an “ah hah” moment and realized there was a correlation of the meds to the migraine. My body was telling me one of those meds was not right for me.
I changed the way I took the meds to only take one med at a time and then I evaluated the affects after consuming that one med. I soon learned that each med triggered a headache and taking them all together would and did produce a massive headache. I interpreted this as “don’t take these meds”.
I’m now starting to pay more attention to how I feel in different circumstances. For example, I’m now paying more attention to how I feel after I consume different foods or beverages. This is spreading out to other areas of my life, including what exercises my body and mind most respond to and what time I should go to bed. I'm starting to pay more attention to not only how much sleep I get but also when I go to bed and what time I wake up. All of these factors can be trigger points of communication from my body to me and can say "hey, that is right on!" or "hey, cut this out, your killing us!".
I believe a person’s body can and does try to communicate and send us messages. It is often a matter of learning that language so you can interpret the message from your closest life time friend; your body.
Learning to be aware there are messages, learning to decipher the messages, and then learning trust and act on the message is an interesting process. It is another way to learn more about who you really are and find out how to become even better.
